The Wine Museum “Piero and Salvatore Leone de Castris”, named after the two pioneers of the Apulian winegrowing, is open to the public
Piero has been a real innovator in the managing of vines and vineyards and the first in Apulia, in 1925, to add the bottling at the winemaking. He had also the great intuition to create the first Italian rosé in 1943, date of birth of the Five Roses.
The son Salvatore contributed at the great development, on the international level, of our own brand but also of the Salentine wines in general. He has been the President of the Chamber of Commerce for many years, the only President of Italian Union of Wines from the south of Italy, and he has also the great merit of creating in 1954, together with his father Piero, the Red Salice, contributing to the achievement of the DOC denomination in 1971.
The Museum has been realized on an area of 600 m2 on the first floor of the Winery and offers to the visitors a unique and fascinating historical-cultural path focused both on our own history and on that of wine in Apulia. Through photos, old bottles, documents and period machineries we will get through the most important steps of the three-centuries history of the company.
Its architecture has also a lecture room, where artistic-cultural initiatives will be organized in order to increase the value of our Region.
